National Resistance Front: Elections were a farce, new regime will not be recognized, struggle for constitutional assembly continues

Communiqué Number 41 of the National Front of Resistance against the Coup d'etat

Comuniqué No. 41

The National Front of Resistance against the Coup d'etat, to the Honduran people and the international community communicates:

1. The complete failure of the electoral farce set up by the oligarchy the 29th of November in dictatorial conditions confirms our proposal of declaring the elections and their results illegal and illegitimate, in addition to re-enforcing our position of not recognizing the regime to be installed the 27th of January.

2. We call on the democratic and honest governments and social movements of the world to reject the electoral farce and not recognize the would-be government installed the 27th of January.

3. Having carried out an electoral process that lacks all legitimacy and legality and that attempts to guarantee the power of a minority of the population, the installation of a National Constitutional Assembly represents the alternative to channel the demands of political participation of all of the Honduran people. We will continue struggle for this.

4. We reiterate that all of the acts that the current de facto regime and its successor carry out will not be recognized by the people. We especially emphasize our rejection of any amnesty for the violators of human rights.

5. We take this moment to recognize the work of the Committee of Relatives of the Detained and Disappeared of Honduras, which today completes 27 years of vigilance for truth, justice and the construction of a society where human rights are guaranteed to all.

WE RESIST AND WE WILL WIN!

Communiqué No. 40 of the Popular Resistance Front Against the Coup d'etat

WE DENOUNCE THE FAILURE OF THE ELECTORAL FARCE

With complete satisfaction we announce to the Honduran People and the international community that the electoral farce set up by the dictatorship regime has been absolutely defeated due to the low turn-out of voters at the poll sites, to the extent that the Supreme Electoral Tribune had to prolong the poll another hour until 5 p.m.

You don't need glasses to see what is in front of your eyes. Nation-wide monitoring by our organization proved that the level of abstention during the process is at least of 60-75% percent, which is the highest in our national history, and implies that only a maximum of 30 - 35% of registered voters voted. This is the way that the Honduran people are punishing the pro-coup candidates and the dictatorship regime, whom now are having problems demonstrating to international public opinion a level of turnout that never existed. We denounce that to make it appear that way they have resorted to fraudulent maneuvers like bringing in Salvadorans from the ARENA Party into our country, as was denounced by the farmers in the municipality of Magdalena, Intibucá. And we expect that they try to increase the turnout numbers by means of electronic manipulation. In desperation the de facto regime has brutally repressed the peaceful march that took place in the city of San Pedro Sula, in which several brothers and sisters were hurt, beaten and detained; and one person is reported missing.

Amongst the wounded is a REUTERS reporter and the detained include two nuns from the Latin American Council of Churches who were there as human rights observers.

Considering that this result represents a great victory of the Honduran people, the national Front of Resistance invites all the Honduran people in resistance to celebrate the defeat of the dictatorship.

Monday November 30th 12pm we convoke in Tegucigalpa a Great Assembly in the STIBYS union headquarters and then will have the great Caravan of Victory against the Electoral Farce.

We resist and we will win!

Comunicados 40 y 41 del Frente Nacional de Resistencia Contra el Golpe

Comunicado No. 41

Indigenous leader Salvador Zúñiga: "The electoral farce is a failure. The oligarchy will never be able to hold back the deep desire for justice."

We are here with Liberated Radio live from somewhere in Honduras. We are here talking with one of the brothers from the national leadership of the National Front of Resistance, also a leader of COPINH, the Civil Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras, Salvador Zúñiga, brother, in this period, in this context of the scenarios of the elections on one hand and on the other hand the repressions of these days in which the police are scaring people with bombs, bombs like those that have gone off in Tegucigalpa, like in Santa Bárbara where there are big explosions but no damage. They generate terror but they don't generate injuries. They aren't just feeding the idea of the fraud but also the idea of terror. Tell us a little about what we are living through these days.

Salvador Zúñiga: Well, we believe that the cards are thrown out on the table. The failure of the electoral farce is imminent. It is imminent as you see by the streets without people despite us being a day away from the farcical process set up by the coup-makers. The population won't attend and we could bet, that the bar of abstention if there was a bar graph with all the votes, we can already say that the highest bar will be the bar of abstention, which will get up to at least 70%, despite the fraud and despite them marking off ballots as they please. The majority of the population isn't participating in this electoral farce set up by the coup-makers.

So what is the environment in which this is developing? It is an environment of political repression. It is an environment of persecutions. It is an environment of terror. And these explosions that the paramilitary groups detonate is exactly in order to later justify why people didn't vote. But the people won't vote because they know that there is no point to voting because when the oligarchy feels affected with even the most minimal social changes, the oligarchy takes out the troops to assault and not allow changes.

Nonetheless, we are optimistic and one indicator of the great possibilities for the emancipation of the Honduran people will be the index of abstention in this process which, as I said, will be the majority.

So then, what will happen? The oligarchy that doesn't want to attend to even the most minimal social demand, that doesn't want to cede even a bit, that wants to continue giving away the national territory, that wants to continue destroying the forrests, that wants to continue selling away mining rights, that wants to continue selling away the rivers, etc., this oligarchy won't be able to hold back the deep desire for justice, for change, the deep desire for a more just and more humane economic model.

So what is the new government or the new regime of the oligarchy? It will administer a brutal economic crisis, a brutal social crisis that can be seen already in the levels of violence unleashed by all the authorities, unleashed in this short time the coup-makers have been governing – the executive branch, that is, because they've governed the whole country for years. They will administer a political crisis because the traditional political institutions are completely decrepit, they don't motivate, they don't convince. The two-party system is in a agonizing situation. So the new regime in the first six months will be confronting a social crisis because the Honduran people will be able in their exercise of sovereignty to push forward their emancipation by battling the regime with the push for a national constitutional assembly.

This National Constitutional Assembly should create a new social contract, a new social pact amongst Hondurans in which there are fundamental principles. For example the principle of pluri-culturalism, the principle of the defense and protection of natural resources, water, land, forests, biodiversity in general. For their preservation and for their development and management to benefit the Honduran people fundamentally. But a sustainable management, a responsible management. The other principle is of the rights of women, their rights to sovereignty over their bodies, the right to live without violence. The principle of the rights of the indigenous peoples, the right to diversity in all of its dimensions. This new social pact should also propose fundamental reform to the media law. That is to say, we can't live under a media dictatorship that lies, lies, lies, lies, lies and whose owners are exactly the gentleman of the oligarchy who have been constantly repressive.

Liberated Radio: So they should be part of the goods of the nation because the radio-electric space is property of the nation.

SZ: Basically, the Honduran people should have the right to objective and impartial information. It won't live under a media dictatorship that only presents the spokespeople for the oligarchy. They should give space to national alternative radio chains, alternative media and they should prohibit the oligarchy from owning the media.

Another important element is the communal right to land. We believe that in the passing of the next six months, the new regime or the continuation of this coup regime, which from what I understand will be Pepe Lobo acting as the new puppet of the oligarchy, this regime will be decrepit and the Honduran people through its resistance movement, through the National Front of Resistance will be better positioned to advance a new political subject for the transformation of the country – not that it has to become one but that it should advance a new political subject for change. And the Honduran people should define in the new constitutional pact the new role of the armed forces. Armed forces that first of all shouldn't absorb the national budget. Second, that should not be trained under the doctrine of the School of the Americas but under a Morazanista [in reference to Central American independence leader Francisco Morazán] doctrine, under a doctrine of fundamental respect for human rights, which should be laid out in the new constitutional framework of justice, they should be...

LR: The army of Morazán is an army that defends the Constitution, not the oligarchy.

SZ: Exactly. And a radical transformation of the justice, which is to say that this country can no longer be a country where the poor are the only ones to go to jail while the rich enjoy impunity. It can't be, as it is now, that the supreme court is at the service of the oligarchy. There should be a correct and proper administration of justice.

We strongly believe that the moment of true change is approaching. And it won't be a gift. It won't be easy. It is a product of this crisis which has clarified to the people who is who, which has identified for us, for example that there are coup churches that are havens of vipers and snakes. That has allowed us to identify the true allies of the people, the true Christianity at the service of humanity, at the service of Christ and justice. That has allowed us to identify who are those that are truly committed to the process of transformation of our country, in this sense, because we can see how the people have identified the opportunists who allowed themselves to get caught up in the electoral route and ended up being used to legalize or try to legitimize the fraudulent elections, but I see that the people have been able to see that.

That is why we are optimistic, we believe that we have to strengthen the unity and conviction that sooner or later the historic moment will come in which changes will be structural. Not cosmetic but structural changes that reduce the 80% of our people who live in poverty, and that 60% of them who live in extreme poverty. That allow us to resolve for example the lack of education for millions of kids who don't have any possibility of going to a school. That allow us to reduce the indices of malnutrition, of infant mortality, of illiteracy, that allow us to create a more democratic and tolerant society, a society with inter-cultural democracy, a society where the people always have a say and are listened to.

LR: Salvador, [talk about] the international arena. This process has finally allowed us to see the true face of all of the political sectors. Today in this country we are living through and getting to know the fascists who are taking off their masks and are showing their real faces in the media now with these campaigns calling everyone to vote and talking about the supposed parties which the people are convinced don't exist. Today the United States has taken away the cart and Panama is taking it away, and Costa Rica is taking it away and even the president of Mexico is doubtful if they will recognize or openly be saying that they will recognize the results. But on the other side the ranks have closed, they call to not recognize the elections and have established pacts which great strength. In the international arena there is a depiction of Honduras as continuing to be in the center of the hurricane.

SZ: Well I think that it is important to point out that the United States have always been fascist invaders of the rights of the peoples, exploiters and in this process they were the ones who financed the coup and advised the coup, Charlie Ford, Hugo Llorens, these men came exclusively for this work.

LR: Jon Negroponte.

SZ: Yes. Absolutely. They brought in Otto Reich, they brought in Robert Carmona, but they wanted to show another face. Nonetheless that has ended. It is known that imperialism is always imperialism and that it will be against the processes of emancipation. But it has to be said that this paper tiger is more than ever made of paper, because it has a scary economic crisis that they can't resolve, they are living through a recession, they are in an extremely uncomfortable situation. They are being defeated in Iraq, they are being defeated in Afghanistan, they are being defeated all over the world and they have to use once again brutal domination through war on Latin America. But in this context what we can see is that they will move and have moved their puppets, for example Oscar Árias, a puppet who has always been a puppet, a defender of the Nicaraguan counter-revolution. Alan García a corrupt man who killed tons of indigenous peoples. The Panamanian president who is an ultra-right oligarch. The Colombian president Álvaro Uribe who is also ultra-right. These type of puppet governments we could call them, will obviously always back the actions of their sponsor. The empire is still the empire. Obama is simply a vessel for the U.S. war interests, for the groups from the arms industry, for the secret sects that dominate that country and put forth the plan of governance. In that respect it is important to point out that the peoples of the world are living through an historic moment in which the emancipation of the Honduran people is a fundamental and emblematic struggle which has to be and is being supported by all the peoples of the world.

LR: One last question Salvador, a call out to international civil society who is listening to us. What is the role of international civil society in this moment?

SZ: International civil society should support the justness of the struggle of the Honduran people for the defense of democracy, for the defense of the interests of the Honduran people and of all the peoples of the world. Civil society should be in solidarity, should understand that the men of war, of terror, of illegality have to be isolated and denounced. In this moment any act of solidarity is important, whether it is a protest in front of the Honduran embassy, sit-ins or protests in front of the U.S. embassies. And the message of the struggle of the Honduran people has to be passed on and taken up as a struggle of all the peoples of the world because otherwise, we are talking about coups in Paraguay, they are conspiring in Venezuela, the coup-makers are conspiring in any country where there is a truly democratic process. This is the moment ot support with strength and to stop the coup-makers and fascists of the world in any way possible.

LR: For those listening to us through Radio La Voz Lenca, Radio Zelaca, Radio Tumbela, Cadena Mi Gente, Radio Maíz... those who are listening around Honduras, tomorrow there is a popular curfew.

SZ: Absolutely, a curfew, that is to say that people will stay in their homes reading, taking care of business, watching movies, cleaning the garden and they won't go out in the streets as a show of repudiation of the electoral farce. The streets will be deserted and the only ones moving about them will be the coup-makers, the armed forces, the police, the paramilitaries called in to violate human rights. The Honduran people will be meditating and preparing for the new rounds of struggle for a more just and humane society.

Indigenous Hondurans: "The U.S. government, by recognizing the electoral farce, demonstrates once again their participation in the coup d'etat"

The Civil Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras in response to the latest events characterized by the electoral farce set up by the de facto regime, makes known the following:

1. We once again denounce that the de facto regime has deepened the repression against the Honduran people in order to guarantee a spurious electoral process that isn't recognized by most of the national and international community.

2.- We demand the immediate freedom of the sisters and brothers who have been captured by the coup regime.

3.- We demand an immediate halting of the crimes against Hondurans for struggling for the restitution of the constitutional order and of the constitutional president of the republic Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

4.- We announce the great defeat of the electoral farce with the rejection of the population that has decided to abstain from voting, which will demonstrate once again the capacity and strength of the resistance against the coup d'etat. The results will be that the great majority will abstain from the electoral fraud.

5. We warn that from this farce will emerge a regime to administrate a political, economic and social crisis that will be unable to sustain itself in the face of the just demands of the people organized in the National Front of Popular Resistance.
This regime will be isolated internationally from the democratic countries and peoples of the world.

6.- We condemn the government of the United States and its puppets who, by recognizing the electoral farce, demonstrate once again their participation in the planning, financing and execution of the coup d'etat, threatening to extend it to the rest of the peoples of the world.

7.- We salute the brave and honorable attitude of the people who have withdrawn their participation from this electoral farce.

8.- We call to the peoples of the world to deepen the solidarity with the Honduran people, and to be alert to what happens given the repressive attitude of the military dictatorship.

The emancipation of our people will not be detained
. Nobody is giving up here.

With the ancestral force of Lempira, Mota, Iselaca and Etempica we raise our voices full of justice, dignity, freedom and peace.

Day 151 of Resistance: Despite state terror, resistance continues

The campaign of terror carried out by the dictatorship against the popular sectors is coming to be just as predicted and denounced by Andrés Pavón, president of the Honduran Human Rights Commission (CODEH), a few weeks ago. The attack perpetrated with military arms against the politician and business man from Olancho, Ulises Sarmiento, was just the beginning.

Today is the burial of the body of the teacher Luis Gradis Espinal, a teacher from the resistance of the south of
the country. His body was found yesterday, tied and executed, after having been reported disappeared by his family. Witnesses are sure that he was detained by the police and military in one of the many search operations taking place around the whole country.

In the city El Progreso, the police are carrying out intense operations in the homes of the leaders of the Resistance, and they claim to have found a small arsenal of arms in the house of a teacher, arresting even a German citizen. Among the arms they report several founds of nails that according to the police spokesperson would be used to make traps to puncture the tires of cars and stop the trucks carrying electoral material. In the same zone, the communities Tacamiche and Silím report that they are surrounded by hundreds of military soldiers.

In the city Danlí, several young people were kidnapped by the army causing terror among the population who fears for their lives. According to the denunciation from the family members, they have been recruited forcefully for military service. At the same time, in the same city, a human rights investigator was placed under arrest for hindering the work of the justice operatives
.

Today at night Milton Jimenes Puerto, the close collaborator, ex-minister and friend of President Zelaya who had been underground since the 28th of June was arrested. The arrest of Jimenez is the carrying out of the first arrest order issued for a political prisoner linked to the inner-circle of the Zelaya government and serves as a reminder of what could happen if Mel dares to leave his diplomatic refuge.

The police this week imported a huge arsenal of arms including 10,000 tear gas grenades, 5,000 rubber bullets and a new anti-riot tank worth $12 million dollars. According to the report by the secretary of security, the objective of acquiring it is to defend the right of the people to elect their authorities.

Nonetheless, it is hard to believe that all of these actions are being carried out with the goal of securing the elections. The Honduran elections are far from being recognized by the majority of the countries of
Latin America and though the United States, Perú, Colombia and Panamá (the ultra-right arm of the continent) have said they will recognize the new president, what is certain is that this will bring tension amongst the different governments that are already extremely divided.

But who comes out the most damaged from the Honduras effect is the Obama administration, who has sacrificed the possibilities of a more egalitarian foreign policy, of cooperation amongst nations, for an imperial realpolitik that has always separated the United States from the subcontinent. Lula da Silva has already stated his disillusion with the turn to the right in the foreign policy of the U.S. president and reminds him of his promise made just six months ago and broken now because of Honduras, of constructing a new relationship between the United States and Latin America.

And although there aren't real international observers for the elections, (the regime is pleased with the arrival of the insignificant Concerned Women of America who are coming, together with the "State" of
Taiwan, as observers and witnesses to the transparency of the Honduran electoral process). What is true is that the eyes of the world will be on Honduras this weekend.

The Resistance knows that the elections are an important recourse to save the dictatorship by transferring the authority to a front person who with a certain degree of legality will conclude the political project of the coup d'etat. It also knows that because they are so important the dictatorship will seek to defend them with all the necessary force. And that is the trap, because if the despotic Micheletti regime, with or without him in from of the government, carries out an unprecedented action of repression to guarantee the elections on the same day that the eyes of the world will be carefully watching his actions, he runs the great risk, not just of the elections not being recognized, but of them being contested by the international community.

So what then does the dictatorship seek with its terror campaign?

The government that wins in these elections will inherit an extremely difficult country to govern. If we combine a debt of close to 10,000 million Lempiras with the private bank of a country with an index of 10% annual interest, the lack of real possibilities of external financing to cushion the crisis, a decrease of close to 4% of the national economy, plus the devaluation of the currency up to 50%, an increase in taxes
and a lack of cash to pay salaries, in addition to an unhappy and organized popular sector, we get a government lacking internal and external legitimacy, extremely weak, only sustained by the armed forces and the police.

The oligarchy needs to eliminate the political opposition to consolidate its new project of domination, that elimination can only ocurr through terror, killing and genocide. Nonetheless, they once again commit the same error that they committed on the eve of the 28th of June. They under-estimate the creative capacity, the transformational capacity of the struggle, the combativeness of a people that has identified its enemy and understands, this time even more clearly, that a path towards national liberation, towards the re-founding of Honduras, has begun.

¡NO PASARÁN!

Committee of Family Members of the Detained and Disappeared in Honduras: De Facto Government Preparing Repression in Run-up to Elections

DE FACTO GOVERNMENT PREPARES REPRESSION IN ELECTION BUILD UP

The Committee of Family Members of the Detained and Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH), to the national and international community expresses its worry about the deterioration of the human rights situation in Honduras that deepens day by day and takes on new forms.

The new wave of death threats, political persecution, illegal detention, torture, militarization of some areas of the main cities and incursion of cars without license plates with tinted windows driven by heavily armed people with their faces covered by masks into neighborhoods identified with the Resistance Against the Coup that have been declared free of political propaganda, adds to it the
obtaining of information about leaders of the resistance ordered by the military and politicians.

The environment of repression and uncertainty, which is re-enforced with the order given the 16th of November, 2009 by the Sub-secretary of Service Networks of the Ministry of Public Health which orders the preparation of a CONTINGENCY PLAN to cover health services 24 hours a day from the 19th of November to the 4th of December, 2009. Along with order No. 1055-09-SSRDS, the Plan should include a halt on anticipated appointments without putting the health of patients at risk, reprogramming of selective surgeries scheduled for those dates and dealing with the shortage of medicines and medical supplies for the plan.

These measures appear to be related to the carrying out of the illegitimate electoral process on November 29th, structured abnormally reflected in the militarization and para-militarization expressed in the incorporation of the military reserves to support the Armed Forces in watching over the electoral sites which already included 16,000 military troops and 14,000 police agents.

In the western departments of the country the army reservists are distributing fliers to intimidate the
population in resistance, in which they call members of the resistance irrational criminals and calling marches and sit-ins inhuman and not appropriate for civilized people, like what the communists did in the eighties.

Military control progresses and consolidates, despite and while the jester face of the coup powers announces a strategic break from the 25th of November to the 2nd of December. The security forces are equipping themselves with new repressive tools, a completely armored vehicle has been incorporated into the Secretary of Security to disperse protests, the riot police unit is equipped with video cameras and a high capacity water cannon, in addition to a mechanism to leave whoever gets hit by the water marked for 48 hours. While the Armed Forces have initiated selective registration of people in highways around the country, at the same time we are seeing the incursion of airships in the departments of the Atlantic zone of Honduras.

COFADEH expresses to the structures of Protection of Human Rights and to the international community its worry for the security of the social activists who struggle for the re-establishment of the democratic order.

COFADEH asks the International Community to stay alert about the human rights and demand that the Honduran State guarantee the life and integrity of the Honduran population
and foreign residents of the country.

We don't forget the Acts or the Actors. Neither Forget nor Forgive.

National Resistance Front: Armed Forces preparing massive repression for election day

Communiqué #35 of National Front Against the Coup d'Etat

The National Front of Resistance Against the Coup d'Etat communicates:

1. We alert the international community and human rights defense organizations about the growing repression and persecution of organized people. In this sense the Comittee for the Defense of Human Rights in Honduras released a report that warns about preparations by the armed forces of the State to execute actions of terror, making them seem as if they were done by the Resistance, and in that way justifying the massive killing of people linked to the National Front of Resistance Against the Coup d'Etat.

2. We denounce the mobilization of military forces in the entire national territory, with arms and campaign equipment, which goes beyond any previous preparation that has been done for an electoral process. The preparations of the Armed Forces include the contracting of mercenaries, amongst whom is a strong contingent of reservists and provision of hospitals and clinics for medical attention to military and police involved in the acts of violence against the population.

3. We want to make clear that the announced "absence" of the dictator Micheletti from power that is supposed to happen from the 25th of November to the 2nd of December, is just a maneuver to hide the totalitarian role of the de facto regime and the Armed Forces who have set up an illegitimate, illegal and fraudulent electoral process.

4. We condemn the threats and intimidation against different media who tell the truth about the situation out country is living through, and which today lived through a new episode with the interruption of the signal of channel 36.

5. We reiterate that under this anti-democratic and repressive coup regime it is impossible to carry out free elections.

6. We call all the Resistance Fronts nationally and all the committed organizations and solidarity organizations outside the country to increase their secuirty measures and prepare to denounce any violation of human rights by the Dictatorship.

Grandmother of the Resistance: "Only the people can save the people"

We are here with the famous grandmother of the resistance. Tell us your name and a little about the struggle of the Honduran people.

My name is Dionicia Diaz, grandmother number one. The struggle of the Honduran people is for a constitutional assembly. They carried out a coup d'etat against our president because he was consulting the people, which isn't prohibited here or in China, but it was a consultation of the people to see if the
people wanted to have a fourth ballot box in the coming elections. That fourth ballot box would be to see if we wanted a constitutional assembly. Only the constitutional assembly is above our current constitution. They would see if more of us said yes than no, because they were asking both the people who would say yes and those who would say no, it was a popular consultation. But unfortunately they didn't let him consult us because Sunday the 28th of June when they were going to consult us they carried out a coup d'etat, without any justification whatsoever.

The only reason they carried out a coup d'etat is cause that fascist who is there in the president's house is envious because nobody wanted him and nobody voted for him to go to the presidential house because he
was a candidate but nobody voted for him the majority of us know him, that he isn't apt to be a president of a republic. Because a president has to be the father of all the Hondurans, but this fascist can't be. He came to power by force and divided the people. For him the only people who exist are the oligarchy, the ten families with money. Look where we poor people are – in the streets. They say we are thieves, or that there's just four of us, but look [points to crowd of people in the protest that day] … it's not that he's mistaken, he knows it, he is shaking because I don't think there's even a million people on his side and there's seven million of us. Ever since that day I've been in the resistance because they carried out a coup d'etat against the people, not the president.

Why do you say they carried out a coup d'etat against the people, not the president?

Because it was because of the consultation of the people that the president was going to carry out to
obtain a constitutional assembly, to have a fourth ballot box the day of the elections to change the constitution that doesn't serve us at all because it has ancient articles in there that just favor them, not us, and President Manuel Zelaya since he came to the presidency went to the side of the people. The First Lady when from town to town seeing what the people needed. They didn't rob like all the ones before them. Excuse me but they were all thieves, they all pillaged the coffers of the people and now it is them who are saying that Mel Zelaya violated the Constitution. The people who violated the constitution are the coup-makers. The people who divided the people are the coup-makers. Mel Zelaya won his elections and is the President of the Republic. He's not up for a vote, they are in elections, they owe the President of the Republic seven months, and they have to pay them.

And you have been in the resistance every day?

Since June 28th, the first day of the coup d'etat.

And you haven't been afraid of the repression?

I'm not afraid because we don't owe anything to anybody and we aren't doing any harm this is a peaceful
resistance. Nobody is carrying anything here. They say we carry rocks, look through this backpack, we don't have rocks we don't have anything, I just have my megaphone if that is a crime, and they were putting in a decree to make megaphones prohibited. They want to shut our mouths with a decree. They don't want anybody to talk, what we have here is a dictatorship. The people have a dictatorship and can't breath. We don't know what to do, we ask the republics who are friendly, the OAS, the UN, to do something for God's sake, to send parachutes down on the presidential house because this is unbearable. They are killing the people and nobody is paying.

And who are the resistance, who are the people in the streets?

The resistance is made up of those of us who have waken up and who know that we don't want to be under the boot of those who have exploited us our whole lives. I'm telling you, when the coup d'etat happened I was in my bed, sick, I could barely get up, but I had gotten up to vote close by at a school where there were boxes to go put your vote in. I was just going to go there, but when they told me that they had carried out a coup against the President, my illness left me. And since that day I've been well here in the resistance. Incredible but I was cured. And I continue forward, I continue here in the rsistance.

And tell me some of the moments that have made an impression on you in this resistance?

Well like I tell you, here they have killed brothers and sisters, they have violated sisters, they have thrown teargas bombs that have killed people who got poisoned, and here, according to this coup-maker, nothing is happening. In Honduras everything is fine, there's no problem. And as I say we have a dictatorship that is doing us so much damage you can't imagine. We need to get out of this, we need international support.

And what do you think about the elections coming up?

They have them already rigged! The ballot boxes are full already! Some of them will win, whoever is
most convenient for them. What they don't know is that Micheletti would just as well not have the elections recognized internationally because then he wouldn't have any successor to give power to and he can stay in power his four years, that's where his sick mind takes him, he's a psychopath, this man will kill us if he stays there, we need to get him out. As they say, only the people can save the people. If we don't find another way out, the people, who they hope have gotten tired from them oppressing us, from them beating us, from them gassing us, the people will get tired. That's what he said! That after the elections in two years the people will have forgotten. In two years the people will have taken him out of there, who knows how, but the people are at the point of exploding.

And what level of support does the resistance have amongst the Honduran population?

The Honduran population is united. We help each other out. There's no lack of unity here. They say that people have left us, no way, we are sick of being oppressed, they don't want us to talk, they don't want us to march but the people continue in the resistance and he can't shut us up, he can't hold us back. One thing
is people are in their towns, waiting to see if somebody resolves this, but the other is that if it doesn't get resolved we will resolve it. That is the truth.

And tell me a bit about the history of this strugle?

I was just in the strike of 1954, because the coups that happened before aren't like this one. You know why? Because before in four days nobody remembered the coup d'etat. Because the people have always been kept busy going to vote, giving their vote, then going to sleep and the problem is over. You voted for the red or for the blue and the problem was over. Now the people aren't with any candidates, we aren
't in elections, we are in resistance to achieve a constitutional assembly, to change the current constitution that doesn't help us in any way. They have violated it tons of times to do what they want to do and they don't take the people into account. The only one who took us into account was our president.

The constitution is very old, very violated, these old articles have done too much damage to us and we should change it, they've changed many constitutions here. This one they don't want to change because it has ancient articles that they put there so that it would never be changed. They think the people will never wake up, that they will always be beneath their booths and never say anything. We won't have a way to breath. Look how the military has us surrounded. Before when the indigenous or the teachers came to
protest at the congress, when we had our president, there in the presidential house, they would sleep there underneath the congress, where they wouldn't get burnt by the sun or get wet and they would pass the night there. Now look [pointing at line of military arround the congress] You don't think this is a dictatorship? Please! They say that Mel Zelaya violated the Constitution. And what worse violation than taking out the president of the republic and putting in an unjust coup-maker there? How could you come to my house and take me out if it's mine and I'm there? That's how it happened to the president of the republic in that moment, it still is, they have him kidnapped. The resistance wants a constitutional assembly to change the current constitution, we're not kidnapping or killing or robbing anybody.

What is your message for the other peoples of the world?

I realize that amongst all the peoples there is resistance in favor of Honduras and I thank very much all the peoples who support our resistance, who are in resistance yourselves. And if you can help us in anyway, please do it, because this is an unbearable dictatorship that we can't tolerate. We will not continue tolerating it. We're at the breaking point of exploding, at the breaking point of violence. If I look patient here, behind be there are those who won't bear it any more. They don't want to because every day they are sending more and more soldiers, more and more decrees to shut our mouths, trying to make us mutes, this is unbearable.
